Hello BJD friends! Today I have the joy to present a new interview with a famous BJD artist: Heliantas from Antique Fabriks. She was really kind to let me put a lot of pics from her work, so this interview is really full of pics from her awesome work.

Ok, here we go :) As always, this is in english and spanish. After the first introductory questions, the rest is side by side. Hope you like this!

Hello Heliantas! Thank you so much for doing this interview!
Hello Musume thank you so much to have thought of me for this interview, I’m very proud and a bit embarrassed in the same time, I'm pretty shy.
¡Hola Heliantas!
.

Your work is gorgeous! Will you tell us how did you find out about BJDs and how did you started doing faceups?
Thank you so much, I'm very proud that you like my work on bjds.
I discovered bjd in 2008 thanks to a report I saw on the TV, which gave me envy to buy my first doll after several long hesitations because of the price!
Finally I bought my first BJD, but when I saw her I was very disappointed, she was not for my taste...I was not ready to have a bjd… so I very fast sold her.
I tested then pullips, I liked them, it was the blythe which allowed me to make my first make-ups and customisations. But bjd still trotted in my head! Finally the second had been the good one!
Knowing the techniques of make-up, thanks to my work on blythe, I, a day, have decided to make the make-ups on my bjd dolls. At the beginning, very hesitating and simple, beginning then by means of work and of training better and better finished. Then one day, a request for a faceup commission that I accepted, it was the first of a long series, and now I work with BJD as my full time job.

You also sew for your dolls and have a costume store. How all of this started? Do you have any fav material? Why?
I started to make the clothes for my BJD because I didn’t find in the retailer's the style I wanted for my dolls, and especially I didn’t like the modern fabrics used, not always of good qualities!
The sewing was always a hobby for me, I have no needlewoman's (seamstress) formation, I learnt everything alone, and for me my fav material is the antique laces. It's an evidence, I find that the BJD, those modern dolls became alive thanks to antique laces.
I also like the linen fabric but for now, I don't have time to do what I want with this fabric!
After I like to work on OOAK creation using different styles of materials: fabrics, feather, fur...

Which was/is the most dearest outfit/faceup you did? How the idea came out?
It's very difficult for me to make a choice on my work, because i love all what I do, when I work on a commission, if I don't like the doll, if the idea of my customer doesn't suit me, I don't accept the commission because i'm unable to work on an idea which is not in my style and my way of seeing the dolls.
In my collection ,my fav work ?...not easy, but i think that I have 2 fav:
The first, is the customisation of my dentelle doll from Marmite sue, a classic noi. This doll is part of my collection I call: “showcase doll “
This doll is so delicate, so “sexy”, I think that she has no need a lot of garments...In my vision I wanted to make a tattoo on all her body , so it’s the tattoo which dresses the doll.

The second is my dollstown Amy in her steampunk outfit. I worked on this OOAK for a contest in 2011 the theme was “23rd century”. I love to work on themes, i think it’s very interesting to find how we can explore ideas to staging a doll, on a specific theme.
I created an outfit, a top hat, and a lot of accessories with antiques watches...

Congrats on your book! Do you want to tell us a little about it?
Thank you so much!
For now my book is not finished...i made a first version, just for me and my shows to present a part of each work that I made, i work not only with bjd, but i create also, ragdolls, plushes and my dollypets, repaint on vinyl doll... So it’s not a good version for sale.
I work on the elaboration of 3 books that will be soon for sale:
One on all my work on OOAK BJD: from the faceup to the outfits on each dolls that I made since my beginning.
A second based on my collection of dolls. With the BJd i have the passion of photos, it will be a book of my most beautiful pictures.
And a third based on all my work around the BJD: ragdoll, plushes, repaint.
¡Felicitaciones por tu libro! ¿Quieres contarnos un poco sobre eso? ¡Muchas gracias!

Finally, do you want to share something else with us?
I like to try everything, I work by feeling, by inspiration, by period.
This winter I discovered a new pleasure: the sculpture. I created my little dollypets, little plushes "half human" "half animal" very surprising in their style but whom have found their public.
And now I return to my first loves, the work on vinyl dolls OOAK, as blythe, buyl doll and other toffee dolls. It is a pleasure to transform and make beautiful dolls that may not look very nice at first.

Thank you so much for your time and answers!
