Tuxedo Dress

Hello there! Today is not a great post, but I wanted to share some things and ideas regarding the tuxedo dress I made for Venezia on the previous photostory. My main goal was to also link this post to my sewing portfolio, as I hope to be doing commissions again soon.

Anyways, Venezia's dress is inspired on the tuxedo dress from L'Wren Scott Fashion Show from 2009 (second photo, here). It took me a little to make, as I've been doing a lot of extra hours at work, but I very much love the shape, and I think the fit is nice! However, I think it is not best shape for Venzia's big breast... maybe something with more cleavage and more colorful would look a thousand times better.

Here is a photo and more sewing-ranting under the cut.

I actually made the pattern myself, as always, and tested it first with the lining. I always do that, as lining fabric is inexpensive and I have so many of it. Here is a wip photo I shared on Instagram. I'm actually no that happy with the neckline, as I was really sleepy when I did it, and did not realize the fact that it was a tuxedo's neckline, and made it wrong! *facepalm* But at least I like how it looks.

Here is another wip, this time from the sleeves' testing. I'm very happy with how those fit, even if the neckline is not what I wanted to do, actually D:

You may be wondering why none of the photos reaches her feet. Well... there are a couple reasons. First: I didn't had any good floor background, and second (and most ridiculous): no shoe fits her! That is partially incorrect: although some of the shoes I have fit her feet, the weird ankle joint goes out of its way, and makes pathetic and inhuman-looking angles, because the shoe arc is not the same as the feet arc... and it looked terrible, honestly.

Also, the dress is so dang tight (my mistake, once again forgot to make a slit on it) that she could barely move her legs! No kidding, the thing on the story about the dresses was true. She cannot even sit on this, not even unfastening it, hahaha! My mistake, though xD I need to get another stand for cases like this.

Anyways, I apologize I didn't share more today. Next week is another interview, and I hope you will like it! Do you have any project going on? Have a great weekend!

  1. Tight dress, big breasts and no slit - does not matter, Venezia looks fabulous in her tuxedo-dress! I think that she can carry it very well. And as we all know, one learns from the mistakes if you even can call them that. Minor issues. :D Hope that you can find some colorful fabrics and some inspiration to make her something new.

No bigger projects going on here. Would love to make some new clothes for Noomi.

    Have a wonderful new week!

Also, I can imagine wearing that dress IRL would have about the same issues! XD Sometimes I wonder how celebrities wear things like this and manage to sit down at all! LOL

  6. Venezia se ve fabulosa con el vestido esmoquin, y me gusta mucho como luce el color negro. Espero que el próximo vestido salga como tú quieres, pero este te ha quedado genial.

  7. I love the dress, though I prefer the matte finish from the original, but it makes it less elegant I think. Great photos! Hope you can find shoes for her soon~

    1. Thank you! Yeah, that is because of fabric: I used satin.
Ohh shoes! I hope so too!

  8. One can easily overlook your "mistakes" Musume when the finished dress looks so lovely on Venezia. I often find I need several attempts to complete an outfit the way I imagined it to look, so you are not alone in doing this. :)
