Sleeping Calina

Well, I have been disliking my own photos for a while now. I feel they are all the same, a background with a doll in a given pose, and nothing more. I asked for help and advice to the wonderful Sherimi, and she gave me some ideas about trying to portray more of the character of the doll.

After that, I found several amazing Blythe photographers, mostly on Instagram, and after looking at their amazing photography with incredible set-ups, I realized that what I aim the most is to take pics that can give some sort of feeling, and were the dolls look a little more alive.

So, when I made this overall for Calina, I thought of portraying her sleeping with all the props I have. So, here it is! Tell me what you think of, critique is very welcome!

This one is one of my favorites, to be honest! I also decided to try a yet new watermark, because I was starting to dislike the previous one.

Well, I know some of the pics are repetitive, but I believe I liked the 'feel' of the photos. Need to keep improving! Also, I loved making this overall for Calina (the glorious boots are made by my mom), and I think she looks so cute on it! I learned a lot, because it had several things I haven't tried before.

I was also considering making a number of photo-shoots with Calina, where she would be sleeping anywhere and in the most crazy places! Hope I can do them!

Anyways, do you have/had issues with your photography? How did you do to improve? Feel free to share your ideas/critique on the comments, I love reading them!

  1. Love to hear if I was able to help you with your photos! ^w^ Sounds like the Blythe photos inspired you a lot and I can see how thoughtfully you put this scene together. All the props look great (not to forget the super cute overalls!♥) and I think you succeeded well in giving some feeling to the photos and Calina looks alive! You did great work with these :3 Just always try to have fun while taking photos and keep practicing, I'm sure you'll improve~

    1. Your words were so true! Thank you :3
And yes, I saw so many really detailed Blythe photos, with so many props and details, that I wanted to attempt it! The bad thing is that I don't have many props, so oh well... will try to make some.
Thank you :3 I will keep trying my best!

  3. I really like the way you used the miniature food in these photos!

I find that that's one of my biggest photography challenges - knowing what to do in terms of positioning accessories relative to dolls and figures.

  5. Great photo shoot, with all the accessories! An issue that I have with doll photography myself, is the lighting. I have to practice more on that. And for the rest, I have a lot of fun, posing the dolls, trying to make them look as "human" as possible. I take tons of pictures and then choose a few, and sometimes a little story starts to surface with these pictures :-). The overall and boots are beautiful!

    1. Thank you!! Yes, the lighting is a hard issue for me. I have two lamps, but I broke one, one day xD
And it is like you say! Sometimes a small surfaces while taking pictures!
      Glad you liked the outfit!
