Doll Couch Project!

Hello! Well, sometime ago I twitted (as always) that my lovely husband bought me a dolly couch! I have wanted to make one for a long time (something like this), but then this happened. Allow me to tell the story of this purchase happened.

There is an "artisan's walk" that opens every weekend in a certain square during weekends on my city. In case you don't know, artisans (of all kinds) makes shop-posts near the pathway, and while you walk, you can see what they have up for sale, and buy if you want. There usually are people that makes things with glass, knitters, handmade purses that I have a whole lot of, sculpts, and really varied things too. Hubby and I were walking there on a Sunday afternoon, because we love to see those shop-posts, and something caught my complete attention: there was a woman artisan that had a lot of things made of wood and wicker, and one of them was a miniature couch! We stood around analyzing the miniature furniture for a while, and concluded that it was MSD sized. I made a guess that two dolls would fit side by side, even. Hubby told me he will buy it for me, but I was unsure. So we kept walking but then we went back and purchased the couch.  It was around $7 so the price was great! (I honestly think that woman should have charged more)

As an idiot, I didn't ask the artisan's name, and she didn't gave me a presentation card as some of them do, so I don't know her name. Hubby and I have kept wondering what was the original intended use of the mini-couch, because the post-shop did not had any other dolly sized items, but mostly bowls, boxes, and other decorations.

Here is the couch with Coco making use of it:

More under the cut!

Coco fits really nice, and can do several nice poses. It would be very tight for two MSDs dolls, but I think it is perfect!!!

I cleaned it before sitting Coco on it, and realized that those strange circle-shaped-spots sometimes stain, so I sited her with the bloomers on. Anyways, here comes the project, then!!

About the project...

So, the couch is here, but I decided to make some cushions to make it more comfortable and realistic looking. After looking for a lot of ideas on the internet, I decided on making two squared white cushions as base: one for the seat and one for the support; those cushions will also have some ribbons on two corners, in order to tie them up to the couch, and prevent annoying movement while posing my dolls on it.

This image is pretty similar to what I have in mind:

I think that the curvy-ness-like of the couch will make a nice contrast with square cushions. After that, I will make some colorful decoration cushions... you know, so Coco can grab a cushion, put it on her lap and put a book on top of that. Anyways, these are my reference images:

After that, and if it looks nice, I will try my hand at making that... part that some couches have that it is a small and low mini-couch to put the feet on top of it. Something like this:

Anyways, I know this is a small project, but I'm really happy for being able to tackle it, and I hope that everything will look nice! After all, I will be sewing all the cushions by hand.

I'm not going to post each of the steps here, but instead, I made a Project Journal over DoA! You can check it here: http://bit.ly/DoACouchProject The first post says almost the same I wrote here, but all further updates will be done on DoA. I will post here the final update, though. Maybe edit this post with more images, but not patterns and everything.

Happy! By the way, stay tunned for a new interview on Sunday :3
