Premiere Dress ~ Commission

And here I am, sharing photos of another dress I was commissioned! This time, I worked with the lovely Sherrylynn126 (on Instagram), and we arranged this through DoA.

The dress I was request to make is actually Daisy Ridley's Star Wars premiere dress (photos here: front, side, back). Since it is for Minifee, its fit is not perfect for Coco. The original dress was made by Chloé Atelier, and all the laces (both for the bodice and the skirts) were embroidered by hand, and that took around 300 work hours!! So I "cheated" and used fabric that was already embroidered.

There are more photos and anecdotes under the cut! Beware, because there are a lot of photos!

The dress actually has three main parts: a panty, a petticoat, and the one-piece dress. The clutch was made by my mom, and it was a gift :D

We have an issue with this, because Sherry gave me a fabric by name. What I didn't knew, is that the literal translation of it was a completely different fabric in here!! So I initially thought I couldn't use that kind of fabric, but then researching I realized it was named differently in my country! *facepalm* I apologized for the confusion, and in the end used the fabric that she originally requested.

The only change we did, was adding the lacing at the waist. I don't know if you are able to count them, but the dress has eight skirts plus the petticoat!! And oh my, I love the bun I did for Coco!

And this is it for today!! I know, they were too many photos, but Coco looked so pretty, and I really loved the dress. I always find that working with microtulle and lacing is very challenging, but I loved the end result. Plus the little clutch my mom made is awesome, so amazing!

Hope you are having a great weekend, any dolly news? Any new plans or arrivals?

  5. Wow how beautiful dress!!! ^__^ I'm so happy to see so many layers of soft tulle, the design is interesting, I went to see the reference photos and I do think that using a pre-embroided fabric was a great choise! I find it represents the reference dress very nicely in doll scale and it works beautifully with the bodice. And EIGHT layers of skirt is truly needed to cover those fantastic legs! Coco truly is a princess and the clutch is beautiful, your mother is as good artist as you are! ^^ Coco is absolutely fabulous in this dress, you did good with this commission. :D

    1. Thank you so much!! You are too kind *blushes*
As funny as it sounds, the eight layers were not enough to cover her legs, so I had to add the petticoat (plus it is visible in one of the photos). The clutch is amazing, I do think my mom made an amazing work!

  6. Fabulous work again! The dress is gorgeous, I love how you styled Coco's hair, and your mother's clutch is perfect. Because of the multi-level hem length, this dress actually does work for Coco. I think some of the fabric will trail on the floor when a MiniFee wears it. Altogether, a wonderful interpretation of the premiere dress.

    1. Thank you so much!! I love the hairstyle too, it was so simple, yet it looked so good!
Yes, some skirts were floor length, but they are too short for Coco xD And the clutch is lovely, I agree!
