Hello everybody! I know we are a day ahead, but I wanted to share this interview with you! Please welcome Ji-Won aka Miya from MiyaDoll. She is an independent sculptor from Korea who recently started her own brand. I love her work, honestly!

Hi there! Thank you so much for the interview! Want to introduce you to the readers?
Hello. I'm Miya. I'm glad to meet you!!^.^ I am the representative and main sculptor of MiyaDoll. My actual name is Hong Ji-Won. Let me introduce myself briefly. I am Korean. I majored sculpture in University, and worked as a sculptor for four years. I'm doing my own business right now!
¡Hola! ¡Muchas gracias por aceptar la entrevista! ¿Te presentarías a los lectores?
Hola, soy Miya.

Do you have any artistic background? How did you find out about BJDs?
I actually first found out about BJD when I was a middle school student, but I couldn't have any because it was too expensive for my age. I had to settle for pictures on the Internet. Over time, I went to Art High School and majored in Western painting. I majored in sculpture at four-year university because I wanted to learn fine sculpture. Until I graduated from university, frankly speaking, I was not interested in making BJD.I only studied fine sculpture. However, I decided to make BJD for the graduation exhibition. This changed my life. But I didn't know how to make BJD, so I bought a book about BJD and studied . After many trials and errors, I ended up completing 120cm of BJD, and I was able to hold exhibitions. And then I learned about the excitement of making BJD!

You worked on other companies, before starting MiyaDoll. Do you want to tell us about it?
Yes ...Um ... well ... It's a little bit sensitive topic ^^, but I can tell you. I graduated from University and was hired as a sculptor of SOOM shortly after, because I submitted a photo of 120cm BJD made from in my graduation exhibition. After retiring from SOOM , I worked at Souldoll.

And now you own MiyaDoll! How did you started? What goals did you set for your brand?
Working as a sculptor of big company at a long time, I was always thirsty. From concept to production, I wanted to do my mind. First, Miyadoll pursues cute, adorable dolls ♡ Even the boxes, logo designs, are all pink! Because it is my favorite style.^^; I have not yet made the perfect special Miyadoll. But I'm always trying! I hope you'll watch Miyadoll! Because I only worked as a sculptor, I knew nothing about management. So, there was a lot of trouble when I first started Miyadoll. But I didn't give up hope, and eventually Miyadoll could get into the world! I'd like to try a newer and more diverse dolls of concept. I'm so happy to see the owners who love my doll. So I hope I can continue to do this!

Do you have a workspace?
Yes, it's not big, but I have my own workspace. Actually, I worked in a very small space, but thanks to the love of a lot of people for my dolls, I was able to move into a bigger space. I'm doing everything here. Regarding the photos:
  • No.1 and 2: Zoom in on No.4 photo.
  • No.3: It is located in the lighting and table and can be filmed.I see my bike and boxes in front of me :) It's not organized yet ......I'm sorry.
  • No.4: This is a small exhibition space decorated at the entrance to the workshop. I hung the letters and cards from fans of Miyadoll and my friends.
  • No.5: Personal Computer!
  • No.6: A distant view of the workplace, where there are ventilation systems. I installed it all myself.
  • No.7: Zoom in a little more! There are usually things I use.
  • No.8: Zoom in! There are heads working.
  • No.9: Other side walls and large tables. I'm doing office work here. And sometimes guests can sit down.
  • No.10: The place with the pink refrigerator I love!

You have several sizes, and are working on a new mini girl! What size do you prefer?
Yes, I am making a new size doll. But it's not a completely new style of dolls. This doll size similar to MSD in Volks. Because I value compatibility as much as design. Except for rough measurements, I would like to complete the doll with a detailed description of how I prefer the joint structure. However, it takes a lot of time to complete the new body. I hope I'll be able to show it to you soon!

You have also done commissions, for example the recent Fureneemo head. Have you done many commissions?
Well, the Milky Head for Pureneemo Xsbody is actually not a commission. It's just sort of collaboration that works with the original creator of the head base. I got the consent of the original person and made a custom on this headbase, and finished the Milky head. No personal production request has yet been received. However, the production request as a business partner is underway.
¿Has hecho otras?
No he recibido pedidos de producción personal.

Have you considered making big SD dolls? Or do you prefer smaller sizes?
Yes! I'm very interested in SD size!! I hope to make it someday. I'm thinking of trying to finish the MSD body development. However, body development requires a lot of time.... First of all, I'm going to try to work with SD head.
¿Has considerado hacer muñecas SD?

Finally, is there anything more you’ll like to share with us?
Well ...I love you guys. ♡♡
