Faeries Books ~ Lore

Oops, I'm so sorry! Last weekend I got inspired after a photo about books I saw on Pinterest, and decided that it was time to make another lore snipped. I have joked several times with Merry not differentiating novels from history (here and here), so I think it is finally time I do something to explain why is that... and not only due to Merry's innocence.

So, thus I went to my biggest source of props... err... my mom's house xD I only have new books or college books, but she has tons of them, loads of them. And some are old! With gloriously yellowed pages and hardcovers with golden/silver details that were just what I had in mind. So picture me going out of her house, balancing an insane pile of books, while she was suggesting me to put them on a box to carry them easily xD

Anyways, as before, have a cute photo of Merry (no new outfit here, I just wanted to reuse this one, because it is lovely). The lore is under the cut!

History Recording

Faeries do not have books: they write on parchment scrolls, sometimes made of thin plant-leather, sometimes made of magic-imbued leaves. However their writing is different to that of humans’: fairies only record history facts, travels, magic spells, and information related to their jobs, such as dreams assigned, teeth collected and Godmothers assignments. As a consequence, there is no fairy-authored poetry or novels.

Everything a fairy inscribes is something that happened. As such, they usually borrow human’s books to read fiction. There are rumors that Merfaeries (those whose animal spirit are fishes) love poetry: they turn them into songs, to inspire humans. Also, it is widely known that Bunny faeries favor human children’s stories, especially if there is magic involved. And there is always the tale that Horse fairies, protectors of the Elder Council, enjoy old war stories, odysseys and similar legends.

Nevertheless, there is a common issue: some young and naïve faeries are often confused at the concept of fiction, and tend to think that all human writing is a history record. That is why the Settlement has reinforced schooling on human traditions.

I must confess, I wanted to take photos of them outside the diorama, so I got this idea with the books, and I think it ended up quite nice. I think I like this 'lore' things, because I can experiment a little... or maybe I need another diorama. No space for that, though, I need furniture for my minis as I want to do Coco's and Venezia's story, but I'm very limited on the setting.

Anyways, need to open sewing commissions for that, but I'm close to PhD graduation and applying for a better position at work, that I don't have time, sadly. Oh well, don't want to bother with that. Did you liked this? Hope you did! Have an awesome weekend!

  5. I like how much thought you have put into this! :D It makes sense that Merry wouldn't understand. In their universe, are Merry younger than Cookie or just more Naive?
