Interview with Turbow (Pupa * Casa)

This month I had the pleasure to do an interview with Turbow! Besides being a BJD fan, she is the photographer behing Little Moda's promo pics, she also has the clothing brand TB:LM and is the owner of Pupa Casa. I have always loved her pics and how she styles each of her dolls.

The interview is in english and spanish, and all the pics posted here are used with Turbow's permission. Hope you like this!

Hello Turbow, thanks so much for doing the interview!
No problems! And please excuse me if I made many grammatical errors. My English isn’t very good. = =;;
¡No hay problemas! Y por favor sepan disculpar si cometí muchos errores gramaticales. Mi inglés no es muy bueno = =;;

First of all… how did you find about BJDs and took interest on them?
Before I started collecting BJD, I was a hardcore Blythe collector (I’m still collecting them til now.) and have been in doll collectors communities for a long time but never really looked at BJD back then.
One day I had a meet up with doll collector friends and they brought their BJDs along to show me (if my memory serves me right, they are Lati yellow, Pukifee, and DollnDoll girls.). I thought they’re kinda interesting especially the DollnDoll Bubble. After that I started to browse around for BJD through Flickr and came across a certain doll, Luts KDF Ani which belongs to Carla (ribonita). I fell in love with her immediately and that’s how I ended up ordered my first BJD, Luts KDF Ani (my Aizome).

Your work and collaborations with Little Moda are really pretty and famous. How did this start?
It started from being in doll collector communities, again. Four (or five?) years ago, I opened doll photography service in a local doll forum and then Little Moda contacted me to photograph outfits for her. We quickly became friends since then. It has been fun to style and photograph her outfits. Then one day I happened to really want to design outfits for my own dolls but couldn’t find where to start since I cannot sew at all, so I asked her if she’d be interested to collaborate with me to launch a new brand “TB:LM” for outfits with my designs, she kindly agreed!

You also work at Pupa Casa and collaborate with DayDream. What can you tell us about this?
Technically, I’m the sole owner of pupa*casa. I didn’t collaborate with DayDream. I’m just their official dealer (and a big fan of their creations) and I must say they’re one of the nicest companies I’ve ever dealt with! Aside from DayDream, I’m also an official dealer of other companies, such as Bluefairy, Enchanted Doll, The Pages, Lullaby Poem, and more. It’s such great experiences working with many awesome people who create those wonderful pieces of art!

And congrats on your recent travel to Japan! I think you went to the Dolpa, how did that went? Anything to share about the event?
Thank you! Actually, there’s nothing that exciting about going to Japan. I regularly traveled to Japan, once every 1-2 years. Kyoto Dolpa 10 happened to be held within the days I planned to travel to Japan, so I simply added it to the schedule. It’s the 2nd time I was able to go to Dolpa and it’s not much different from the first time (Tokyo Dolpa 27). Dolpa has always been like a battlefield to me than an enjoyable event, but it’s always interesting and never failed to amazed me, in many aspects. What made this Dolpa a big different from the first Dolpa I experienced was that I get to go as group with friends (most were new people I’ve just met for the first time), not alone as the first time. And they all were very lovely and helpful. I wouldn’t be able to get everything I aimed for if without their helps! I really am thankful to them, truly.

All your dolls are gorgeous and have a lot of personality, but if you have to pick only one of them… who will be and why?
Easiest answer! I will pick Dion (Volks Tae + SD16 body). I think everyone who knows me knows she’s my absolute favorite girl. To tell the truth, she’s not only my most favorite doll but also my most favorite object!
Elegiría a Dion (Volks Tae + cuerpo SD16).

Which is your favorite doll company, and why?
Bluefairy, DayDream, and Volks. Oops! I have 3 favorite companies. Sorry but I love these 3 companies equally XD

Finally, anything else you want to share with us?
Let’s have fun with our dolls and no drama ; ) Oh! And say no to anything illegal (ie. recast and bootleg).
