Hello! It is a pleasure, and thank you so much for taking the interview.
Thanks to you for your interest in my work!
¡Hola!

Lets start with a classic question. How did you met BJD?
Well, it was at already... 10 years? (Oh my god, how time goes by!) when browsing the Internet I stepped on a picture of a Volks Super Dollfie. She was an SD13 and I thought she was Barbie size. I though she was gorgeous, but most of that because of her eyes, so I started researching. That was how I discovered Volks and two more stores: Angel Region and Dream of Dolls. I needed one in my life at any cost!

Irrealdoll is becoming renown. How did you decided to start Irrealdoll? Do you have any workspace?
I have always liked artwork, drawing and dolls. I decided to study Fine Arts and my target after finding out about BJD was to make my own dolls at any cost. When I was almost finishing my career, after many failed attempts, I started with the smaller engendritos Enyo and Ino and I was pretty satisfied with the result. Besides, I had the luck that Dollshe started taking orders to cast dolls -just what I was needing! I couldn't be happier to know that I was finally getting what I was trying from years already; my little ones were about to have life. Luckily, I have a workspace. Until not long ago I was living with my parents, and after that in a really small flat where I could not even store the cardboard boxes. Luckily I have found a bigger place where I can work comfy and have my space to draw and sculpt.

Your sculpt are really special and distinctive. Do you have any main inspiration?
I didn't use something that would inspire me, to be honest. But, it is true that my drawing style is really awake in my dolls, and in the drawing I do have a lot of artists that inspire me. For the engendritos I like to watch babies, the have some sort of resemblance, don't you think? I love their mouths!

Lots of Enyos, by Laura Garijo

The names you pick for your sculpts have always been so interesting to me. Do they have any particular story? How do you pick them?
All of the names I use in my sculpts have a reason. "Engendritos" seams and it is a really derogatory word, something called "engendro" should be ugly. The first test mini heads I did were ugly, but they even had some sort of enchantment, or at least, they were funny. That is how the final engendritos came to life, they still were weird but cute. Regarding the name of each one of them, I thought it was going to be interesting to name them after moths, because moths aren't pretty, but they also have that enchantment, depending on how you look at them. Enyo comes from "Enyo Lugubris", Ino is "Caria Ino" and Dryo is "Dryocampa Rubicunda".

Have you though in making full dolls (head and body) in different sizes of the Engendritos? Of course I did, in fact I have already finished Nur, my 49cm tall boy. Nur has a special story, because I started his body quite a few years ago (I think it was 2006 or 2007) for another head, Suichi, but since I did not had the possibility to cast it, I simply stored it. This year I decided to finish it, because I thought it was a shame to waste so much work, so it has a little from the Laura of the past and from the current one, hahaha! In the other hand, I want to keep innovating and making more sizes, because I love to create, but I don't want to stop making the engendritos line, I really like them.
