Interview with Aisineri's Miniatures

Hello everybody! Today I have another interview to share with you. Please welcome Svetlana from Aisineri's Miniatures! Based on Ukraine, she makes stunning miniatures, mostly for 1/4 BJDs. You really need to see how detailed her miniatures are!

As always, the interview is both in English and Spanish, and all photos are used with permission. So without furhter ado... let's start!

Hi there! Thank you for accepting the interview!!
Hiiii! *waving hand* My name is Svetlana, I’m from Ukraine. You can know me as Aisineri, that person who takes pictures of a pink-haired girl with a cat and making miniatures.
¡Hola! ¡Muchas gracias por aceptar la entrevista!
¡Hola!

How did you find out about BJDs?
My story isn’t unique. I saw them on internet. It was 2007, the Web appeared in my parents’ house. After this day, life never became the same *laughing* And when I first saw BJDs, I was amazed how realistic and beautiful they are. But I didn’t know anything about these dolls and was sure they can only be bought in other countries. How surprised I was after 7 years when I met people from East Europe, who owned BJDs!
When I realized that this dream could come true, I figuratively fell ill. It was like a disease or an addiction. I changed my work to have more money (and we all know how expensive this hobby is), spent hours staring at the BJDs’ photos, started to improve my handmade skills. I had never felt such strong inspiration before. This hobby gave a powerful impetus to my self-development.

And from there, how did you decided to work on miniatures? Do you have any workspace to share with us?
I always dreamed of creative work. I tested myself as a writer, artist, poet. But I think I never believed in myself enough to turn my hobbies into a real job. But miniature art is my passion. I always adored tiny things. And toys. And food. So happy I can combine them in miniatures! But when I first saw polymer clay miniatures, I thought it was impossible for me. And look at me now. These is all I do all day *laughing*
But it was impossible without huge support of my husband, friends and other caring people. I’m not genius, and my first work wasn’t good enough. So thanks to people who can see beauty in its infancy. And I still need become better. This is a very long way. But when you already know who you are, you know your direction. It’s still not easy, but nice.
So one day I quit my office job and started my own business. At the moment it’s tiny like my miniatures, ha-ha. Now I work at home. And have only my table. But I dream of whole room for my work or separate workshop. *says dreamily * Maybe someday, when I’ll grow up in a big artist… *smiling ironic*

You also make some fantasy creatures, like Capricorny! What can you tell us about them? Are you planning on making more?
Yes, thanks you noticed! The Capricorny was my first attempt to make something of my own, something unique (hopefully!), from my head. In fact, it borrowed only the idea of a twisted tail from a real Capricorn. This is a fantastic creature. I imagine it living near waterfalls in the mountains, floating in the clouds. Capricorny was given a warm welcome. I had huge positive feedback. And it inspires! So I’m working on other tiny friends now.

For now, you mostly focus on food props. Which scale do you work with? Do you do customs?
I love food so badly that’s why it is the main theme of my work *smiling* But I also make succulents, dishes and other props. I’m focus mainly on 1:4 scale. However, you can find 1:3 and 1:6 scale props in my shop. Sometimes I take commissions. I don’t like working in this way, but it’s so hard to say “no” when people comes with great ideas and beautiful examples.

You also make amazing photography! Any tips you want to share?
Thank you! I’m not pro in this actually, but I’m working on it. For me the basic thing in photography is a combination of colors and a good composition. And the main things are emotion and movement. This is the hardest, because dolls cannot move or smile for example. So it’s always challenge – to get them do that. And finally no matter what technique you use… Best photos are made with inspiration and love for your dolls.
¡También tienes una fotografía increíble! ¿Quisieras compartir algunos tips?
¡Gracias!

What about your personal doll collection? Do you have a favorite brand or size?
My favorite size is MSD, I like different fashion dolls. Now I have one doll and two heads in my collection. It’s Iplehouse FID Raffine, IH Stella and Raccoondoll Lucy Elf. And BJD cat by Evestudio of course! I don’t have enough space for dolls and doll boxes, so one body for all is very convenient and saves my money. But like every BJD lover I hope over time I will have more and more dolls. I need them all *laughing*

  1. Svetlana takes brilliant photos! And her miniatures are perfection. If it weren't for the fingertips in the photo of the Asian dumplings and tea set, I would think they were full size. The rainbow cake and chocolate pancakes give me a sugar rush. Ah, bliss! The photo of the doll tipping over backwards on the high stool with her coffee cup flying through the air is magic. I'm guessing Photoshop or some other picture editing software was involved; otherwise I don't know how she did it. Great interview!

Yeah, the flipping chair is probably photoshop and overlaying two images, but it is genius!
