Photo Challenge: Head

And so, I keep messing around with the photo challenge! Today's topic is head, and I thought it would be a great opportunity to do something weird with a portrait for Venezia. I rarely edit my photos in black and white, and I think this was a great opportunity for it!

Of course, it took me overall 1 hour of sitting on the cold floor, putting the camera in weird angles and on top of even-weirder surfaces to get the angle right. Oh! And don't forget to include the lowering-rolling up of the blackouts, trying different light sources, and so on. But I'm quite happy with the result, though!

For the picture, I wanted play around with shadows, because I think those look great on black and white photos. I saw a great trick with a strainer, but the ones I have made spots that were far too large for V's head, but okay for a human. Anyways, I tried the classic half-face-in-shadows, but I kept the soft top light in order to not make the cute very sharp.

I edited this with a slight tint. The collage below has: original (top left), posted (top right, tinted), colour version (edited, bottom left) and untinted B&W (bottom right). I do think the one I posted above is the best, though.

My settings for this were:

Camera Body: Sony a6400 (mirrorless, crop-sensor).

Lens: Minolta MD 50mm f1.7 (with MD-to-SonyE adapter).

Tripod: Unbranded gorilla tripod, on top of the Iplehouse's box.

Settings: 50mm, f1.7, ISO 100 shot at 1/25 sec.

I have a question. This Minolta lenses I use are manual. Would you be interested in seeing how I focus with manual lenses? Granted, Sony's cameras have specific functionalities for that, but I guess it may be useful? Your call, let me know.
