Low Key - Short Story

To be honest, this was sort of an improvised story. I hadn't planned for it. One stormy Saturday I wanted to try something new after finding out that I had a very small piece of black background, so I went to look for low key photography tutorials. I grabbed Venezia, changed her into almost nothing (some net leggings and the shawl that my mom made) and tried to get some shots.

While trying different camera-sutra things (picture me holding the reflector with my mouth, pointing a light with the left, and shooting the camera on the tripod with the right... or right hand to grab V in case of emergency, and left one shooting the camera...) I kept thinking that V would hate such shoot, with almost no clothes. And... this story came to mind. So here it is! It is very, very short, but oh well.

If you have any suggestions about the photos, go ahead! It is my first try with low key, anyways...

Photography Session

She was aware that working with Linda Palgrave as a photographer was a dream come true for a model. But Venezia could not help but feel uncomfortable. She had done lingerie shots before… but there was something about this that made her feel particularly weary. Maybe she was over thinking. She probably was. When the magazine had contacted her manager, they stated that Palgrave had exclusively requested Venezia for this shot. So at first, after finding out, she was thrilled. Now, not so much. Palgrave’s comments were making her feel… uneasy. Venezia had never been kind to flirting so openly on a set.

She kept moving while Palgrave requested other positions on the lights, making different remarks at Venezia about her poses and expressions. She made her best to remain cold-minded and relaxed, even though that was a challenge in that particular case. Thankfully, she had her methods, as being a model often demanded making photoshoots or recordings in which she wasn’t completely comfortable. But her methods were simple… and a secret she would never disclose. For Venezia, it was picturing herself on the gym, lifting weights and sweating like mad after finishing a workout, or eating cheesecake, or burying her face in one of her many stuffed animals.

In this case, she kept thinking on the bakery that was nearby Coco’s –and now hers, as well- apartment, which sold the best lemon-cheesecake she had ever tasted. Yes, today she would stop there after work. She deserved it.

I told you this was a short one! I simply got inspired by the photos, and oh well... I need to practice more with low key. Coco also needs a photo-shoot like this! :D Anyways, I hope you are doing great! Have an awesome weekend! :D

  2. I think the photos turned out really good. You managed to capture a dark, mysterious atmosphere here. I also enjoyed reading the short story. I love when I can 'hear' a character's voice coming through the writing. And when I read your introduction to the post, I kept thinking, the things we do to get a good photo of our dolls. We have to practically be a contortionist.

  4. Great experimental photos Musume, the story went with them quite well too. I think when it comes to photography we either need an assistant or the arms of an octopus! :)

    1. That is true!! My hubby always laugh at what I do to hold the reflective panels, push the camera button, all while keeping an eye/hand free to catch the dolls if they fall xD
