BJD Goals for 2021

Hello everybody! We are welcoming a new year, and thus, it is time for the goals of the year. I like doing this to have some sort of sense of direction to where my hobby is going during a given day. I know 2020 was crazy, and the new normal is probably going to be weird... but I'll try to put up so goals and stick to it!

Before we start, have a Cookie. She is looking adorable in this new dress!

Balance of 2020

Hello everybody! It is that time of the year again, where we check on what we proposed to do, and then what we actually achieved. So this time, Merry is kind of overwhelmed by her food choices... cheese or pastry? It is a very difficult choice for her.
Nevermind, here are some pics, and then my balance of 2020's goals! I hope I fared better than Merry.

Changing Venezia's Story? ~ Rant Post

Hello there, everybody! I hope you are doing great! Here comes some sort of "ranty" post, honestly. First of all, to clarify, I do not want to sell Venezia: she is my grail, I'm keeping her. It is just that 1) I hate that unruly wig, and 2) her story feels... lacking, without Coco around. So I was thinking if maybe I should do some sort of "overhaul" and "re-start" her story with some changes.

Here comes a pretty pic. I love her colorful look here. The pink fabric was a gift from @kawaii_mon, who happens to b nearby me, and I met for lunch a couple weeks ago!

Goals 2017

This was supposed to be the first post of the year, but box opening came first!! I hope you had a wonderful start of 2017! As mandatory for me, I want to share with you the BJD goals I have set for myself for this year. I do hope to achieve more, do better, and feel more accomplished at the end of this year that what it was in 2016.

Goals 2017

Here are my goals! I do hope to achieve most of them:
  1. My dolls have two stories: one for the fairies (Cookie and Merry), and one for the minis (Coco, Venezia and other dolls on my wishlist). I want to start sharing more about that. I already did it on the previous Christmas post, but I want to do it more, write, and share that writing.
  2. Reorganize my blog. Mostly organize the categories to hold the new stories, fix the menu for mobile devices, and do other minor changes.
  3. There are several video reviews I would like to do and share with you, from the urethane eyes I bought (the tracking of one package updated!), the IH Pet Doll, and more!

Happy New Year 2017!

It is amazing how fast the year went by! 2016 started like it could be great and it ended... well, terribly.

Anyways, I want to take the moment to say thank you to all my readers, to people who support me, my whining (specially about customs), to all those who enjoy my interviews, reference posts and all. Thank you so much for being here and being part of the hobby! I'm really happy you are here, that we met and I can share this with you :D

I'm sending you all my best wishes for 2017, you all truly deserve it!

And to finish this post, here is a simple photo of my crew (plus Calina, my mom's doll), in what it was an attempt to be a funny photo. As a brief explanation, Merry is feeling left out because she is the only one whose name doesn't start with C!

From left to right: Calina, Coco, Cookie and Merry.

2016 Balance

It is December, so that means that the year balance is here! I personally think that this year was not that good, but we'll see... I originally posted my goals for 2016 on past January, but I will be copying a summary and "answering" to myself here.

If you did your goals, I invite you to do this, it can be interesting! Let's go!

Photography: practice and improve. Get the remote control.
Ehm... I took some photos, I don't feel I have improved at all, though. I still heavily dislike my photos, and I was really busy and couldn't take as much as I wanted. Didn't get the remote control, as I discarded it early on the year.

Steampunk Victorian bustle gown for Coco. Make a Project journal an da video with voice-over.
I did this!!! I did the outfit and the project journal, and when I did the video I managed to record my first voice-over ever. I don't like my childish voice at all, but oh well...

Stand up with the Artists!

Another year, and the time has come! Today, November 20th it is the #proBjdArtists day! I'm sure people who follows me already knows, but I'm decidedly pro-artist and anti-recast. I have been waiting for this event day to come, in order to share my support for the artists that make this hobby possible.

Recasting is stealing, and it is in no way acceptable. It is destroying this hobby pro-recasters claim to love so much. There has been a lot of artists that had crisis after getting their dolls recasted (like 5th Motif), and others that directly stopped doing BJDs. I want this hobby to last long, to have companies releasing new sculpts, to be able to shop new items from new artists and to support them! This is only possible if we support artists.

And no, I'm not made of money, it took me literally two years to save up for a new doll, and I kept supporting artists when I had to pay 85% in customs duties, or now with a 50% tax... and I will keep doing so!

Anyways, I do not want to extend my rant a lot. So here is a pic of Merry, and more about the #proBjdArtists initiative under the cut!

Bday Present Ordered & Happy News

Hello everybody! Hope you are doing great! I have some dolly news and happy things I want to share with you all :D Let's go in order

BDay Present Ordered!

First of all, do you remember the fiasco of a seller never answering me? Well, they never did. Four weeks passed, they were active on other social sites, but ignored my message.

I may have an endless wishlist of things I want, but sometimes I want a ver specific thing more than other things... if that makes sense? In this case, I wanted eyes for Coco. I can't stand her current Eyecos anymore. But my attempt to get them was frustrated. Talking to hubby, he suggested me to go for another thing on my wishlist... which also happened to be eyes!

I have also been looking for ages to replace my Cookie and Merry's eyes, for urethanes, more shiny and that won't gap! I originally considered Oscar Eyes, but those are so hard to get, and have high dome like glass eyes.

Months ago (after a post talking about eyes), Sarqq sent me DM on Instagram and showed me her gorgeous AllThatGlitters Eyes, from Etsy (lets call them ATG). Let's be honest here: the promo photos are quite... lacking, to say so. So I asked permission, and you will be able to see some owner photos of these eyes (click images to go to the original posting), before I can take those myself. Read more under the cut :D

Goals for 2016

Hello! Hope you all had a wonderful start of the New Year!! This post is to keep up with the tradition of sharing my BJD-goals for the year, so hopefully  by December I will be able to check what I achieved and what I did not achieve.

This time I'm daring to add a small wishlist in my goals, so without further ado, here they are!

Goals will be under the cut! :D

Happy New Year 2016!

As incredible as it sounds, 2015 is coming to an end! Therefore, I want to take this opportunity to give you all a big thank you! You all have supported me a lot, many of you gave me advice when I needed them, you gave me your help and suggestions when and I asked (and many times without me asking!). So, thank you and my best wishes for you all on this new year we have ahead of us! <3

As another small tradition I have, I want to say goodbye to this year with a small collage of my personal favorites photos among all the doll photos I took this year :D I can see a nice improvement from 2014's personal faves!

Merry Christmas, Everyone!

So, now that my crew is all in their season outfits, all matching in style (I think I will keep this as a tradition!), I wanted them to give you a nice Xmas message! However, you now Merry... she is too innocent xD

Please click the image to see it bigger!

To everyone, thank you for reading my blog, for your comments, suggestions, cheers and support! It all means a lot to me, and I'm really happy to have known you all through this hobby :D The merriest of Xmas and the best 2016 to you!!

By the way, I'm uploading the individual pics under the cut, in case they were hard to read!

2015: Doll Goals Balance!

Hello! Well, as it is a tradition that I really like, this sort-of meme is about checking which where my doll goals for this year, and which ones I managed to accomplish. This is actually the second balance I'm doing, but oh well... I hope to do it for a long time!

This is the original "Goals for 2015" post, and let's see what I did! I will put in italics the original goal, and underneath it, the answer/analysis.

Goals vs Accomplishments

1. Since I got my first DSLR camera, I want to practice my photography skills a lot. I want to learn concepts, learn to use my camera, practice with it, and improve. If it is possible, I would love to buy somethings for my camera: a tripod, a purse or the 50mm lens.
Ok, this one is easy! I managed to get a tripod (you can see it on this Instagram) which I love because it goes really high but also lowers a lot, and is solid and robust.  However, my intention to buy the 50mm lens was discarded for two reasons: 1) I decided that I better learn to use my current kit lens, because I definitely need more practice; and 2) the prices were ridiculously high, and I decided to better wait until 2016.
I have been practicing a lot, reading tutorials and many things. At least now I get more sharp pictures, and I'm attempting my best at varying more with the "set ups" I do for the photos, to avoid getting the "background with a doll" feel that I had at the beginning of the year.
I think I managed this one pretty decently, even if I didn't bought everything xD

New Design!

Hey there everyone! If you follow me on Twitter, you probably know I have been working on a new layout for my blog. Otherwise... surprise! :D

A couple weeks ago I was bitten by the I-dislike-my-blog-layout bug, and decided that I wanted to change the appearance of the blog, and do something a little more professional. After hunting several templates sites, I wasn't able to find anything that suited my taste so... why not to use my 8-years programming experience to set my own blog template?

And so, I went ahead and tried to make a responsive/adjustable layout. After a lot of headaches, problems, learning and more... here it is! So, I want to ask you that if you browse on mobile or tablets, please, tell me if something is wrong, if there is something you would like to see/not-see on those devices. Except for the Etsy widget, no way that thing would resize automatically. The G+ widget also laughed at me.

EDIT: Mobile may be having problems. In theory, a cellphone should not display the sidebar.

Regarding the Interviews, I know some of the tables may be out of proportion, with one column being bigger than the other. That is a consequence of how I used to work those tables, and I need to go through each interview, one by one, to fix that. And at the moment of writing this, I'm so worn out and anxious to show the layout!

And regarding the new post category References, currently you wont see anything but, once again, I need to go through my posts and add that label. Hopefully will be working on a couple days.

Finally, the Blogroll is now a carousel, so the banners move automatically (it can also be dragged, also supposedly with touchscreens) so the buttons move and do not collapse the blog. If we had exchanged buttons, feel free to check it! Otherwise, contact me: I have removed several blogs inactive for more than a year.

To say goodbye, for now, here is a pic of Coco sporting the new set that we just updated on Etsy!

Goals for 2015!

First post of the year! And yes, I'm keeping my eyes open if I happen to see Marty McFly on 2015 :D yes, I do love Back To The Future. Anyways, a new year comes and so does the new goals for this year! On 2014 I magically managed to accomplish almost all of my goals, but some of them remained unfulfilled; however, I hope that this year I will be able to accomplish at least half of my goals!

My goals are...

  1. Since I got my first DSLR camera, I want to practice my photography skills a lot. I want to learn concepts, learn to use my camera, practice with it, and improve. If it is possible, I would love to buy somethings for my camera: a tripod, a purse or the 50mm lens.

Happy New Year Everyone!

Last day of 2014 is here! Personally, it seems unbelievable, and it happened so fast, with so much things going on. Loved this year, with its ups and downs, and I hope for a better 2015 where I can continue learning, enjoy life and be a better person.

To celebrate the end of the year, here are my personal favorite photos of this year... there are still some more faves, but the image was going to be too big if I included them. I invite you all to do this 'meme/tag', but I won't be tagging anyone this time.

Anyways, happy 2015 people! I send my best wishes for you all in this new incoming year. And thank you for being here with me during this time :)

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Hello everyone! This year I was finally able to take some tree-bokeh christmas-ish pictures of my dolls! Yestarday was a failed attempt, because I thought that I needed no back-light, and the pictures ended up really grainy. Today I tried again with lots of lights, and got nice photos!

Anyways, merry xmas everyone! I wish you the best of all, and thank you so much for another year of blogging, reading, commenting and sharing tons of experiences and gorgeous moments!

Balance 2014

Hello! Well, it is this time of the year, once again it passed by really fast and I want to balance the goals I proposed myself for this year (dolly related, of course), and check how I did it. The original proposals were on this post (please excuse the horrid photo), but I'm going to transcript them here, and add my comments on what I did, and what not.

Also, and since I blog a lot, I'm linking to old post or images of the things I did, in order to "document" everything, and check what was done :3

What I proposed for 2014...

Since Cookie is coming home in March, I want to get her a wig, shoes, eyes, and buy her a cute diorama from a local hobbyist so I can take nice pics of her.
I remember, I was waiting for Cookie! Ye did arrive safe and sound, despise some complications, but I later found out that she was not working as the character I had made up, and decided to change her. This lead to need to get fantasy parts, new eyes and wig for her.
Since I wasn't able to get any international packages, I purchased some tibetan wool from a local person that ended up being really mean and near a scammer. I still want to get her a proper fiber wig ~a short one, that will allow her to wear cute hats, and let her tail visible. This was her first shoot after the makeover [here].
I never got the diorama, though. And I'm not planning on buying from that local women either.

I Support BJD Artists ~ #proBJDartists

Hello everybody!

Today I'm joining the #proBJDartists support day that started on Tumblr (and now is official even on DoA) after some sad events regarding recasts. I want to make clear that I'm 100% pro-artist anti-recast, and I do believe that recast-owners are not part of this hobby. It is so sad that this is happening to a hobby that is based around artists, creativity and much more, so I want to contribute with my grain-of-sand.

Here is my support photo (I will be publishing it everywhere) and a little more rant under the cut.

Happy New Year!!

This is just a small post I left on schedule before going to my trip, but I wanted to wish you all a Happy and Perfect New Year 2014. I sincerely hope all of your wishes will come true, and that you will achieve all of your resolutions for this incoming year. Let's make it better than 2013!

Merry Xmas Everyone!!!

Merry Christmas everyone!!! I can't believe one year of blogging passed by, and that this year Coco has a -crappy- pic of her to share and wish you a happy holidays to all of you! I wanted to take a nice pic with the tree lights, but my camera doesn't like the half-dark-shiny-lights thing, so they all turned out a little grainy but, oh well. Hope you like this anyways.

And with this pic, I want to share my 2014 dolly resolutions!
